I have become more thankful as my days go...as I read more scriptures and begin to change the way I think. I appreciate so many things that I took for granted before and being humbled, makes me see the little things... Thanks be to God

My joy is the golden sunset giving thanks for another day. Gratitude itself is a source of joy.

I don't necessarily disagree, Jenny Lynne. And I agree we need to work toward change. I am pondering what the best way is to do that.

And I realize I come from a particular perspective. I have worked since I was 13 and have been blessed to have been employed continuously for the past 23 years.

I think that we are in a time of massive change. I wonder how much we are experiencing now is because of unjust corporations and political leaders (and religious leaders for that matter) - I believe much of it is. However, we are also going through a significant shift in our economy and culture and some of what we are experiencing is because of that. The economy is never again going to look like it did 50 years ago.

I agree that there are some amazing vendors at the Green Market, and that they are small business that have owners who were indeed up before dawn preparing for the market that day. I also think that those demonstrators want to see it become easier for those business to grow-to acquire funding to hire more employees. I wonder if you asked any of those small business owners how their profits are doing, particularly in say August or September what they would say?
Are they able to hire more US workers-I personally know a few of those business owners and I know that the workers they are currently using are not US citizens and therefore do not own nor plan to own property here, nor do they pay taxes, or hold insurance in this country. I also wonder how many more businesses there would be at the Green Market in a better economy? That being said I love that this economy is bringing families closer together (literally and figuratively) and is hopefully helping everyone re-evaluate their priorities-for instance should I spend Saturday on my butt in bed, or on the couch or should I go out and march for what I believe in? I myself was working last Saturday, and I am thankful for my job-am I working at a lot less than I should-YEP-as are probably most of us in this economy-AND I'm so very thankful for those wonderful folks that baked and created for the local markets everywhere (since I'm not close to the Green Market), I am also just as Thankful for those folks who got up and made the signs and took the time to speak out against a government that supports employing those that are willing to work for much less than what they should be paid because those are the only jobs available. Am I blaming only government-No! I think we all had a hand in creating what's going on-and I think we all need to step up and work towards change.

Jason,
You amaze me every time we talk or I read you. I wasn't there for a vote but, even if you didn't get ordained, you opened the door to my new home. You keep me coming back (when I don't work) but you gave me much more important things, you gave me back me when I was doubting a lot AGAIN !!! You probably did this for more than me, I dare say you absolutely did it for many others. I can't imagine a church that wouldn't have you ordained. But, you have already served a purpose. I only pray I can help a small portion of the people you have touched. God really does know what he is doing. I do believe he chose you. To lead us. To teach us. To help us find him, through you. You are truly blessed.

Mark

I think this concept of hermeneutical reading is one of the least understood or taught areas in our modern or post-modern churches. Everyone makes choices, but noone is taught how to approach this in a way beyond "fits what I like" or "fits my tradition".

The first time I connected with interpretation was at a women's retreat where the sermon was on the Jewish practice, which is a word like mitsvah? You need to help me out here! I also went to a couple of workshops at UCC events that described the process of developing our theology. Walter Breugemann did one of them and since then I have read his book, The Bible Makes Sense, which deals with conflicts and the development of an intellectually sound process for addressing these.

Anyway, I think we need to grow in this area, and I believe there would be a wide audience seeking help.

I love that. You should print it out and place it on a table for those that were there last week that aren't technically savvy.

Thank you, Pastor Jason, for putting into words what many of us believe but maybe could not articulate. Beautifully said!

Jason, he sounded like a great man to have known & I wish that I could of met him. It's influences like his that makes better people, making this a better world.
